  Project Muse   --  access to scholarly journals in the humanities and social sciences
  ATLA Religion Database  -- (useful for church art topics) --  index citations to journal articles, essays in multi-author works, and book reviews

Finding Books [help]
  Library Catalog -- search by subject, keyword, author or title!
  Tip:  use the advanced search feature to search by subject and title.  This is a good way to start a search w/out knowing a specific title.  example:  "renaissance" as title and "art" as subject.  Find a book that looks promising and navigate through the catalog using the subject headings in the box on the right on the screen!
 
Web Resources
  World Digital Library -- "makes available on the Internet, free of charge and in multilingual format, significant primary materials from countries and cultures around the world"  It is browsable by time, topic, place, type and institution and includes a wealth of manuscripts, maps, rare books, films, sound recordings, and prints and photographs.
 
  NYPL Digital Gallery -- provides access to over 275,000 images digitized from primary sources and printed rarities in the collections of The New York Public Library, including illuminated manuscripts, historical maps, vintage posters, rare prints and photographs, illustrated books, printed ephemera, and more.
 
  Great Buildings Online --   gateway to Architecture around the world and across history, in an online multimedia encyclopedia of world architecture, documenting 1200 buildings and architects from around the world and across history with photos, text, and live 3D models
