ERIC -- sponsored by the US Dept of Education, it is the premier national bibliographic database of education literature containing abstracts of documents and journal articles on education research and practice. The database covers descriptions and evaluations of programs, research reports and surveys, curriculum and teaching guides, instructional materials, position papers, and resource materials. 1966 - present.

  Education Research Complete -- a bibliographic and full text database covering scholarly research and information relating to all topics and areas of education in all levels of education from early childhood to higher education.
 

Social Science Citation Index  -- provides access to current and retrospective bibliographic information, author abstracts, and cited references found in over 1,700 of the world's leading scholarly social sciences journals covering more than 50 disciplines.

Finding Books [help]
  Library Catalog -- search by subject, keyword, author or title!
  Tip:  use the advanced search feature to search by subject and title.  This is a good way to start a search w/out knowing a specific title.  example:  "assessment" as title and "education" as subject.  Find a book that looks promising and navigate through the catalog using the subject headings in the box on the right on the screen!

  U.S. Department of Education (ed.gov) -- was created in 1980 by combining offices from several federal agencies.
It's mission is to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.  
  PA Dept of Education -- "The mission of the Pennsylvania Department of Education is to assist the General Assembly, the Governor, the Secretary of Education and Pennsylvania educators in providing for the maintenance and support of a thorough and efficient system of education."
  Education News.org -- "The mission of EducationNews.org is to become the most frequently used tool on the Internet for disseminating education news." A great, up-to-date resource for current issues regarding education"
  NEA's Education Issues in the Spotlight --  current topics include:  No Child Left Behind, Charter Schools, Class Size, ESEA, Special Ed/IDEA, Teacher Quality, Teacher Shortage and much more! 
  EPE Research Center:  Issues A to Z ---- These pages contain brief but thorough, research-based background essays on important education issues in America today. Each page includes links to research citations, to definitions of related education terms, and to relevant stories from the Education Week and Teacher Magazine archives. You'll also find links to pertinent reports, Web sites, and organizations.  Development of Issues A-Z was underwritten in part by a grant from the Pew Charitable Trusts.
  PA Dept of ED -- AYP reports --- contains district and school reports that contain AYP targets & results for 2008-2009.  It also contains the results from the previous year as well as the targets for the upcoming year. 
  National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) -- the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education.  This is where you can search the current edition of The Condition of Education and the Digest of Education Statistics.  Search features also allow you to search for all public and private schools in an area.
  Current Issues in Comparative Education -- an international online, open access journal inviting diverse opinions of academics, practitioners and students. CICE shares its home with the oldest program in comparative education in the US, the Teachers College Comparative and International Education Program, founded in 1898
  Current Issues in Education --  a peer-reviewed scholarly electronic journal published by the College of Education at Arizona State University (free)
  Education Week on the Web -- covers local, state, and national news and issues from preschool through the 12th grade.  Free site, although print copies of this journal are located in the periodical room.
