Note:"Aristotle's Politics is the second part of what the Nicomachean Ethics calls "a philosophy of human things" (X.9.1181b15). Its analyses range over the nature of the household, criticisms of previous thinkers and legislators, the underlying structure of different forms of political organization, varieties of different governments, the causes and curatives of political dissolution or revolution, and the nature of the best political organization. Scholarship on Aristotle's Politics in the last twenty-five years - datable, perhaps, to the eleventh Symposium Aristotelicum (1987) which was devoted to the Politics - has undergone an almost unprecedented resurgence. During that period, Anglophone authors alone published over twenty book-length studies and over ten (either whole or in part) translations of the Politics; during the same period, seven other collections of scholarly articles were devoted to topics in the Politics, along with several hundred journal articles.
